Anti-dust masks for many types of people

Millions of people around the world wear different types of respirators to filter the air they breathe and protect their lungs. In densely populated areas, pollution is a problem. Some work applications require respiratory protection by law. Even at home, people wear full respirator mask to protect their lungs from common illnesses such as allergies, colds or other health causes. Depending on the application, a specific type of filtration protection will be required. Let's take a closer look at the different types of respirators and their uses.


OSHA is the regulatory body established to protect worker safety by requiring workers to wear respiratory protection when air quality conditions are hazardous. Part of a proper respiratory safety programme includes identifying potential hazards in the work environment. A risk assessment should be carried out to determine if respiratory protection is required. This will be followed by training and education, including the proper use, maintenance and installation of such respirator equipment. All full face mask must be approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Appropriate markings should be displayed on the respiratory device. NIOSH sets performance guidelines for different types of respiratory equipment, which are enforced by OSHA.

Approved filtered dust masks - These are NIOSH approved and display the approval mark. They are designed for particulate matter, some mist and even some smoke, depending on the type of approved dust mask.

Half Masks - These usually include some type of face mask for painting cartridge filtration system designed to protect workers from specific types of contaminants such as acids, gas fumes or other chemicals. Particulate media or cartridges can also be used with many of these masks to protect against various types of particles. Some half-mask respirators are disposable, but many are reusable and offer replaceable cartridges. These types of masks require maintenance.

Full facepiece - Protects the entire face from contaminants. Cartridges are often used to protect workers from acids, gas fumes or hazardous chemicals. Cartridge systems are usually similar to half mask respirators. The full facepiece and back strap fit most head sizes and are designed to be compact and comfortable. Full protection against fog splashes and the ingress of minute substances. These types of masks require maintenance.
