 Should a dressmaker use a repair rhinestone for a garment or not?


First of all, we need to understand what the repair process even means. I will use the abbreviations HF and no-HF. HF rhinestones are coated with a heat sensitive adhesive on the back. This glue is still practical for garments because we can use the recommended hotfix rhinestones applicator on the garment to activate the glue on the back.

HF rhinestones are only recommended for use on fabrics of all materials. You now have a stone with a layer of glue on it. This gives a good bond between the garment and the rhinestone. Obviously, you can still use HF rhinestones on garments.

So what is the purpose of the HF-free rhinestone? Firstly, its flat base allows the glue to stick to the entire back. Secondly, No-HF rhinestones can be enhanced with platinum foil to provide extra brilliance and protection. But the fit to the garment is not as strong as with HF rhinestones.
